Sabse Technologies Bought Mobivox VOIP Service

Sabse Technologies is on the roll, After acquiring Jaxtr, Sabse now bought Mobivox. What does that mean to you as a VOIP consumer? Lets find out.

Sabse Technologies owned by Sabir Bhatia first hit news with their free conference calls service called SabseBolo. SabseBolo primarily offers free conference calls to Indian users. However Its evident that Sabse doesn't want to stop at providing conference calls or rather expand their conference calls services other parts of the world. Especially entering US and Europe market for conference call services will be the key focus for SabseBolo.

Considering these points, Acquiring Jaxtr was mainly a move to acquire existing Jaxtr infrastructure around the access numbers service they provide and now mobivox would also mean expanding the infrastructure, coz even Mobivox offers a very similar local number service.

Sabse might also try to merge Jaxtr and Mobivox together to create one local access number VOIP Provider brand. However, its very unlikely cause Jaxtr and Mobivox are already established VOIP services and they are better that way.

Mobivox has however lost lot of ground after they stopped offering free international calls service and started flat rate 2.1 cents calls to 40 countries. Many free calls users moved to other services in the mean time. However, that also means that whoever stuck around with Mobivox are most likely loyal paid users which is the key for Sabse Technologies.

Lets hope that SabseBolo can again provide free international calls via Mobivox and inegrate the access numbers for Jaxtr and Mobivox to cover more countries/cities. That would benefit all existing users and new users on both theseVOIP services.

Verizon Wireless Hub VOIP Phone Services closed down

Verizon Wireless Hub VOIP Phone Service never took off as a residential phone service however now seems it really couldn't hold on for long in this competitive VOIP Phone services market.

Verizon Wireless has officially announced that they are closing down the sales of Verizon Wireless Hub VOIP Phone Service effective immediately. They already stopped selling the Verizon Hub product via retail outlets and now they stopped selling via online service.

We did a Verizon Hub Review when it was first launched and it was a clear "NO we don't want a Verizon Hub" verdict. The Price point for Verizon Hub was way out at $34.95 per month and you also need to be a verizon wireless Cell phone user with a contract. Way too much to ask for and to compete with VOIP Phone Services like Ooma or PhonePower which offers low starting prices.

Verizon has totally failed to sell Verizon Hub product via online platform or retail, which forced them to close down the Verizon Hub product.

Now I am wondering what happens to the existing Verizon Hub users? Is anyone using Verizon Hub able to use the service anymore? Please comment.

Ooma Telo HD Voice VOIP Service Review

If you loved Ooma Hub, you sure will like to try Telo. Telo is the new VOIP Service/Gadget by Ooma.

Ooma although heavily criticized by Media in USA including me in the past, have managed to stay on for long enough that most of us thought. Looks like, the "Ashton Kutcher" charisma really worked :-)

At the same time, we have to agree that Ooma Hub beats every single VOIP Provider hands down when it comes to looks and price. Ooma Hub would look damn sexy in your apartment and should get enough eyeballs. The pricing of Ooma has been excellent right from day 1 and now since retailers like amazon selling Ooma directly to consumers, we often get even lower price. Right now, you can grab ooma Hub at amazon for only $227.

Now Lets find out about the all new Ooma Telo and Why Ooma Telo is better than Ooma Hub.

Ooma Telo is killer in looks, more sleek than Ooma Hub and gives a bunch of more VOIP features you would love to have in 2010. Yes, am talking about the HD Voice. We are already living a high definition life then why not a HD VOIP service?

The Ooma Telo would connect to your high-speed Internet and existing home phones, allowing you to enjoy free home phone service, free US calls, and exceptionally low international rates.

Ooma Telo Features:

1) Free Unlimited US Calls to any US Landline/Mobile
2) Caller Id, Voicemail
3) Compatible with existing Cordless or Dect Phone in your home
4) You can keep your phone number for $39.99 one time porting fee or choose a new phone number for FREE.
5) Takes 15 minutes to setup. Plug and Play Device.
6) 911 Service: 911 operators would get your registered home address.
7) During Power Outages, Ooma will automatically switch your back to your traditional landline if you have any.
8) Call anyone using Ooma for FREE.
9) Telo is HD voice Ready.

Now the pricing, Ooma literally make you think twice. You get Ooma Telo device and its service for only $249 when you buy at Amazon. This is a one time fee and you never to have pay again ever again. Just call your VOIP provider and tell them shut your service off coz now you are gonna save loads of money.

If i were you, i would settle for Ooma Telo anyday just to have that gadget in my home and make free USA calls. Most importantly having to deal with overbilled monthly bills. Trust me average american spends atleast 30% of his time every weekends settling his bills and if you are over billed, you know what you are gonna get through.

Do Let us know how you find Ooma Telo VOIP Service and write a ooma telo review.

Apple approved Toktumi Mobile VOIP App and kept Google Voice at bay

In a extremely surprising development, Apple has approved a Google Voice alternative Toktumi's Mobile VOIP Line2 app and its now available for download in apple store.

One would wonder, Why Google Voice App wasn't approved? The faceoff between Apple, AT&T and Google voice is still on and will continue for some time before FCC gives a clear decision most likely in the favour of google Voice.

Google can now however use this toktumi approval for their benefit and make a case to FCC. Toktumi's Line2 app works very similar to Google Voice by letting you use one virtual number to forward to your real phone numbers. However its not a free VOIP service and costs $15, but it supports business VOIP features like phone trees etc.

Since Toktumi is a paid service, Apple probably believes it won't directly impact At&T business and it doesn't support SMS either which makes it a less preferable choice. At the same time, they might be interested in pushing toktumi ahead of Google Voice App to get as many users under this app and make it difficult for google voice to gain these customers.

Whatever be the case, the Mobile VOIP Application and the entire VOIP market in USA would face huge turmoil in 2009-2010. Lets hope we see some really good innovations and value addition to VOIP service

Google Voice now offers Free Calls to Hawaii and Alaska

Google Voice has been instrumental in changing the way we make or receive calls in USA. Its already being used by thousands to manage their busy schedule or even make a free call anywhere in the USA.

Please note that this is full deployment of the Google Voice service for these states. Telcan.com Telcan Unlimited India Calling VOIP Provider Review

After Vonage introduced the Vonage World Plan which included India Unlimited Calls, It seems lot of "run of the mill" VOIP Providers trying to duplicate Vonage World Plan. Before you buy Telcan India Unlimited Plan, You must read our Telcan.com Review.

As you already know, Puting your hard earned money into a VOIP Phone services isn't a cakewalk anymore with new VOIP Providers launching every week and vanish the next month. How would you choose your VOIP Provider? Thankfully, you are reading VOIP Guide and we can help you choose the right VOIP Provider for your needs.

Today we are looking at Telcan.com. Telcan claims to offers unlimited calls to India plan for a flat monthly fee of $29.99.

Lets do a Telcan Review.

1) Telcan charges you $29.99 as start-up One time Fee.
2) Monthly fee of #34 ($29.99 + $4 tax) as long as you continue.
3) Telcan offers their VOIP service through local access numbers.
4) There is no contract between you and telcan. You may cancel the service. They claim there are no cancellation fees.
5) With telcan unlimited india plan, you can dial any number in India including landline and Mobile.
6) Telcan has a phone and email support, which is good.

Now, Lets see why Telcan probably isn't suitable for you.

1) No SIP service or Support.
2) Available only via Access numbers
3) You need to register your number from where you can make calls telcan access number.
4) You can't change your authorized number during the month. Only 1 change per month.

I have also reviewed a Telcan.com I received a mail from from this Telcan.com informing me about their new Unlimited Indian Calling feature. This works exactly like a calling card hence no contract issues.

But the flip side is,

  • Calls have to originate from a pre designated phone number. Hence you cannot share your plan with your friends or Family.
  • It will cost you about $34 a month. Setting aside the Betamax if we compare this with a regular calling card which costs about 1.2 cents per minute it will translate to abt 48 Hrs a month ( hope my calculation is right ). I just checked my usage per month and it does not exceed 25hrs and the total talktime of my room mate and friends is about 25hrs. Looks like this plan will be great if we have a free local calling plan ( any time unlimited , unlike unlimited after 9:00 PM ) from Vonage or other similar plan and sharing with my room mates with Time division Multiplexing in place :) but remember there is an additional cost associated with Localcalling plan.
  • Telcan does not offer a local number for all states in US and Canada.

I believe points are to be noted by people who do not exceed the calling limit each month and can save money on these unlimited india calling plans.

Secondly, I wanted to add that those who wish to call Telcan access numbers can make use of Google Voice for calling outside your state to save money :-)

Please let us know your Telcan Review , Feedback and comments.

Viatalk Unlimited World Plan Reviews

When Vonage came out with Vonage World Plan, the competitors in the VOIP Home Phone Provider market had to respond. Now almost every other home phone service is offering unlimited world plan which also including India. You must read our Viatalk Review before signing up for this service.

Viatalk, VOIP Provider has been around in the US Market for long. Viatalk offers home phone services across USA and has now introduced Viatalk Unlimited Plan which includes totally unlimited free calls to over 60 countries around the world including India, Mexico, China, and the U.K.

Viatalk World plan costs only $189/per year which means only $8.95 per month which is way cheaper than Vonage World Plan which is priced at $24.99 almost three times costly than Viatalk.

In order to use Viatalk World Plan, you must signup for Viatalk Unlimited Plan which gives free unlimited USA and Canada calling which costs $8.95. That means the total cost of using Viatalk World Plan is $.8.95+ $8.95= $18 per month

Viatalk offers all important features of a VOIP Phone Service including Voicemail, Forward phone to SIP Provider, CID Privacy, 3 way conference calls, Caller Id, Anonymous Call authentication, Group Call Broadcasting etc.

If you are considering switching your home phone service or was considering signing up for Vonage World plan, Viatalk world plan beats most VOIP Phone services hands down with the plan features, pricing and destinations. You gotta be kidding to pay Vonage $24.99 when you can get the same homephone service for only $17.90.

We strongly recommend you choose Viatalk World Plan over Vonage World Plan.

VOIP In UAE To Be Legal By End Of 2009?

It seems UAE has finally understood the important of VOIP and telecommunication in maintaining the competitive advantage. How does this affect you as a VOIP user or VOIP Provider? Lets discuss.

We reported a few months back that Etisalat is blocking VOIP in UAE region and also possible charging a violation charge for people using VOIP via VPN. This forced many users to actually switch to DU or Etisalat's VOIP solution which is almost 10 times costlier than the most cheapest international calling service like Betamax etc.

According to Maktoob Business, A senior official at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said, International internet calls could be legalised in the UAE by the end of the year. Mohammed Gheyath, executive director of technology development affairs, said the regulator is drawing up a policy on international internet telecommunications, know as Voice over IP (VoIP) and will be published before year-end.

Currently only Etisalat and Du are legally allowed to offer VoIP services within the country but now they can start offering the service outside the country which means it can bring down the cost of VOIP lower but not to extent of other cheap international calls providers.

However, In my opinion UAE won't do any good by just giving VOIP in the hands of the two large telecom companies who would make little effort to bring the cost down and create a monopolistic market in UAE. What they should do instead is start offering licenses to international players and let them compete with Du and Etisalat. However looking at how things work at govenment level, its very unlikely that this will ever come in play atleast not so early.

The only hope is it might bring down the cost of ownership for telecom players and might bring down cost if they are ready to pass the benefit over to consumers. However, in monopolistic marketcompanies often set the prices and people follow them.

If you live in UAE or call UAE often or offer VOIP services to UAE, do you think this will change anything for you?

Reliance iCall VOIP Provider 1 cent offer Review

Reliance definitely has large footprint when it comes to telecommunication in India with large infrastructure to provide quality and cheap price. But before you bet your money on Reliance iCall, do read this review.

Reliance iCall was launched a while back and their services was a instant hit. However, after gaining the user base they stopped offering free international calls and started branding themselves as a cheap international call provider. However, its not simple to gain market share in this extremely competitive market. With companies like Airtel Call home , Betamax breaking the 1 cent per minute barrier, Reliance finally had to match the calling rates.

Relianceicall.com now offering 1 cent per minute to India, UK, USA, Israel, Taiwan, Denmark, Malaysia, Columbia and many more. Reliance claims that there are no further hidden charges such as connection fees or monthly usage fee etc. No Annual contract which is generally not found in this market anyways. In terms of voice clarity, Reliance should be able to offer good voice quality as they run their own E1 lines.

Reliance iCall must be used as a softphone and it doesn't officially reveal SIP settings. You may however try the following Reliance icall SIP settings:

SIP Proxy : 220.224.129.34:5060
user Id: reliance icall username
password : reliance icall password

Another drawback of using Reliance icall is lack of customer support. There is no way to reach their customer service representatives via phone which means if there are any issues with your payments or with reliance icall service, you will have to rely on the feedback form. We are not too sure how effective is feedback form which is totally hidden from the average users.

In our opinion, Reliance icall is not a bad choice to try. You can atleast expect good quality calls at cheaper rates. If you are currently using reliance icall, we would like to hear your opinion. Lets us your review/feedback on reliance icall

LocalPhone VOIP Providers Now Offers Fully Featured SMS Service

LocalPhone is one of our favorite VOIP Providers right from the first day we reviewed them, As many of you already know I am big fan of LocalPhone.

Localphone recently announced that they started offering a new SMS service in addition to their already awesome VOIP service. However, The service lacked integration with LocalPhone Numbers (I have a UK number), which means I had to add my mobile number in order to send an SMS. Guess, Localphone realised this soon enough. They have now added bunch of new features which also includes sending SMS from your localphone numbers.

1) SMS Your Direct Dial Contacts: Users in the UK can now send SMS messages to Localphone Direct Dial numbers and the message will be forwarded on to the corresponding contact. There is no extra charge for using this service, but standard SMS rates apply. Did you get this feature? Its like you added your mom's phone number in your direct dial and Localphone gave you a local number to call her. You can now send SMS to that local number and your SMS will automatically reach your mom's number. Great feature for sending SMS abroad easily

2) SMS History: From now on any messages you send will be recorded and available on your SMS History page.

3) Receive SMS Messages on Your UK Incoming Numbers: If you have a Localphone Incoming Number in the UK you can now retrieve SMS messages too. When a friend sends a message to your number it will be displayed in your SMS History. You can also send SMS’s from your Incoming Number when sending a Web SMS. Localphone is also trying to expand this functionality to more countries.

So, did you try the all new Localphone SMS feature yet? Give them a try Today!

VoipGain.com Voip Gain Betamax VOIP Provider Review

Betamax did it again! A new VOIP service from Dellmont Sarl just hit the market, but is it worth your money? Find out as we review Voipgain, the new Betamax VOIP Provider

As we successfully concluded during our last discussion that, every month Betamax (Dellmont Sarl) comes with a new VOIP service provider to tempt VOIP users around the world with cheaper international calling rates and offering some free international calls to destinations. The strategy is always simple, offer a few free international calling destinations not offered otherwise, so you are sure to gain some customers.

VOIPGain.com is no different from recently launched Rynga.com. VoipGain offers free international calls to about 35 destinations which also include Malaysia (Landline) and China (Landline + Mobile). Voipgain offers 1 cent per minute to India landline and 1.2 cents per minute to India Mobile. Anyone see agreesive calling rate strategy here after Rynga increased their rates to India to 1.5 and 1.3 respectively.

Lets see how you can make calls with VoipGain.

1) Voipgain offeres full SIP support, which means you can use Voipgain with SIP Softphone or VOIP Adapter.

VOIPgain SIP Settings:

SIP port : 5060
Registrar : sip.voipgain.com
Proxy server : sip.voipgain.com
Outbound proxy server : leave empty
Account name : your VoipGain username
Password : your VoipGain password
Display name/number : your VoipGain username or voipnumber
Stunserver (option) : stun.voipgain.com

2) Phone to Phone: Remember that if you use phone to phone feature, you need to pay for both connections.

3) Local Access Numbers: VoipGain has local access numbers in lot of countries including USA, UK, Canada and Australia.

If you want to use Voipgain without using SIP as pc to phone service, you need to download voipgain softphone here.

Honestly, I do not see any reason to go for VoipGain as we all know whats going to happen next, however if you are still in love with Betamax and like to try VoipGain, play safe and deposit $10 and use it while their rates go up again.

Let us know your voipgain review/feedback if you are already using them.

Cheap Calls to Indonesia

Indonesia was once one of the costliest destinations to call but thanks to VOIP now it's even cheaper to call than most other Asian countries.

Betamax outfit Voipgain is now offering industry leading cheap calls to Indonesia for only 1 cent for calls to Indonesia landlines and 0.05 cents for calls to Indoensia Mobile. These offers are truly remarkable. However, Its betamax so be very careful with spending a fortune with Voipgain.

If you compare Betamax to other VOIP services,

1) Localphone offers calls to Indonesia at 6.7 cents per minute
2) Rebtel offers calls to Indonesia at 2.5 cents per minute to Landline and 7.7 cents per minute for Mobile.

At the end of the day for VOIP Providers, its all about volume. If they can drive large volumes of calls to certain destinations they would be more than happy to cut the calling rates. Betamax as well know can offer dirt cheap rates. At the end of the day you either get low quality of calls or they raise the rates overnight.

However, You can still try them for calling Indonesia for such low price.

Free Automated Phone Answering Service For Small Businesse

Most small business switched to VOIP, mostly hosted VOIP Services to save money. Today, you might find another great way to cut cost with free phone answering services and save money/resources on call center.

If you are running a retail or services business, you might be getting 30% calls each day asking about your store/office location address, directions to your store or your current promotions? Would you expense your costly call center employees on such calls? Probably not a good idea. How about your setup a phone answering service which handles this type of calls with preconfigured messages.

Most phone answering system obviously comes at a cost however, there is one Free Automated Phone answering service called fongenie. Fongenie lets you setup a phone answering service for your business for FREE (It will be free for limited time).

You have to understand that Fongenie is in early beta and obviously not 100% perfect. But hey its free and it workable for your small business. You can register and then secure a new phone number for incoming calls and enter the phone number for your store/office location. You can offer your office/store hours and closing days. This should setup a workflow to trigger a voicemail instead of actually ringing a call center number.

Most importantly you can improve sales by putting prompts for promotions, discounts which could improve your sales number significantly. On top of that, you can track data through fongenie interface to know how many people called and what they did through the prompts. This should give you some ROI on investments and overall cost effectiveness of using Fongenie.

Fongenie is currently free but soon will be paid service. Monthly plans will cost about $30 for a certain number of incoming calls. Unlimited plans will cost about $150-250 each month depending on the size of the business.

If you own a small business, will you use FonGenie? Do let us know your thoughts on this automated phone answering service.

SmartVOIP Now Offering Cheapest Calls To India

We talked about AirtelCallHome promotion yesterday, today we noticed that Smartvoip has reduced calling rates to India.

Smart VOIP is a betamax product and now they are offering calls to India at 0.005 eurocents (0.0063 US Cents) making it the cheapest VOIP call to India even cheaper than our favorite ActionVOIP. As we said before, Actionvoip's competitive india calling rates will only trigger a massive price cut for calls to India and consumer will benefit.

The new rates are effective immediately so if you already making calls with smartVOIP, you should have noticed the rate change.

Smart VOIP also offers SIP support that means you can use SmartVOIP over SIP Phone or any supported SIP device.

You can use following SIP settings for SmartVOIP:
SIP port : 5060
Registrar : sip.smartvoip.com
Proxy server : sip.smartvoip.com
Outbound proxy server : leave empty
Account name : your SmartVoip username
Password : your SmartVoip password
Display name/number : your SmartVoip username or voipnumber
Stunserver (option) : stun.smartvoip.com

These new rates for India are already lower than our target price of 1 cents per minute calls to India. Can India would soon be a free destination? Probably not unless VOIP calls can be terminated as FREE or cheap calls on our mobile or landline networks. Greedy Mobile operators and landline companies won't let it happen. Lets just expect that stiff competition will force them to lower the price. Let them fight as we benefit from lower calling charges

Airtel Call Home Offering Calls To India at 1 Cent Per Minute

With actionvoip offering lower than 1 cents per minute to india, other VOIP companies
are under tremendous pressure to reduce their rates to offer competitive pricing. Airtel Call home, part of bharati Telecom one of the world's largest telecom carrier is definately one of those VOIP companies who follow our blog regularly and have realised the potential and importance of offering 1 cent per minute to india.

AirtelCallhome has launched India One Product under which offer you need to pay $9.99, which has a rental of $ 3.99, for the balance $ 6 you get the rate of 1 cent / min rate on local access. Howeever, please note that this offer is only applicable for local access that means you can't use any other way to use airtelcallhome like toll-free number which will charge you at @3 cents per minute.

Now although, airtelcallhome claims that they offer 1 cents per minute to india, its not actually 1 cent becoz we end up paying $4 as rental fees which do not contribute towards any calling minutes. That means you only get $6 for calling India which gives you 600 calling minutes to India.

This gives you an effective calling rate of 1000/600= 1.66 cents per minute to India. I would competitive calling rate but not the best. obviously airtelcallhome is widely used by indians worldwide and those who are currently using their calling card might be interested in switching to this plan which would save them some money on calling India.

Always remember the customer is king and I always said that 1 cent per minute without any catch or FUP or terms if possible for large carriers. Lets see when we are offered with such pricing, hopefully soon. Actionvoip is already doing it and more VOIP Providers will follow soon.

ActionVOIP SIP Offers Cheapest Calls

Betamax has yet again launched a new VOIP service and adds more variety to their existing VOIP offering. The good part of this new VOIP service ActionVOIP is of course the best and most cheapest calling rates to India.

India was offered by a few VOIP services at around 1.39-1.70 cents per minute range by VOIP Providers such as nymgo and Mediaringtalk. As we already predicted that this would trigger further competitive prices for India and Betamax has again managed to lower down the prices to a rock bottom .07 cents per minute. That means first time ever, calling india is cheaper than 1 cent per minute and that means you can call India at around 35 paise per minute, this is cheaper than a local call in India lol. Now you know you are being treated like a slumdog in India by telecom companies and mobile operators in India such as Vodafone, Bharati who charge anywhere between 35paise-1 rs for calls within India. WOW and a international ISD calls originating from outside of India is charged at 35 cents much cheaper than local calls.

Neverthless, 0.7 cents per minute is damn cheap and hats off to betamax to offer such price. Lets hope more popular VOIP Providers like localphone , nymgo start offering these prices very soon. This would not just eradicate low quality VOIP operators offering horrible quality calls but we would have more choice and quality at great prices.

You can start using ActionVOIP by downloading their softphone or you can use SIP with ActionVOIP.

ActionVOIP SIP Settings:

SIP port : 5060
Registrar : sip.actionvoip.com
Proxy server : sip.actionvoip.com
Outbound proxy server : leave empty
Account name : your Actionvoip username
Password : your Actionvoip password
Display name/number : your Actionvoip username or voipnumber
Stunserver (option) : stun.actionvoip.com

You can also use Actionvoip from local access number in your country, however currently the local access number dialing facility is available in a few countries mostly european countries only.

We suggest you give actionvoip a try with a small topup and check the quality of the service. Do remember to give your feedback coz your comments counts and it helps everyone on the blog to make a decision

Voxofon VOIP Free Call Hack

Well, we haven't really given away any free voip calling hacks for some time. I thought lets do one today :-) This is good old loophole often left unattended by many VOIP companies.

Today we will talk about Voxofon VOIP Service

VoxoFon is basically a cheap international call service although many VOIP Providers claim to offer cheap international call service its often costlier than other VOIP Providers. VoxoFon's calling rates don't really excite us at all. With almost 8 cents for USA to India calls on Phone to Phone is way too costly.

Voxofon offers free trial calls to a few destinations including India. That's where you can actually use this free calling hack.

It asks for your phone number and the party's number to dial. Se below picture.

Now the real hack begins here, The idea is to use more digits than your phone number. USA to India free trial call is only for 1 minute but with additonal number combination you can do as many calls as you want. Use your imagination.

Take Example:

First Call: USA number: + 18888888888 and India Number: +912225999999
Talk for 1 minute.

Second Call: Add any digit at the end of the number. USA number: + 188888888889. Don't change India number. So now you have a new combination, Voxofon system won't recognize that this is the same number and will let you make another call.

This way you can repeat as many numbers as you want. It really depends on how many numbers you can add after your phone number. At this time, you can add almost infinite. So Imagine, how many combinations you can make out of this.

For certain countries, the per call limit is higher than 1 minute, so you can expect to talk for long.

Just your imagination and make the most of it. Let us know how you are able to make free calls with VoxoFon.

GrandCentral VOIP Becomes Google Voice

After a long time, Google finally rebranded GrandCentral, a powerful VOIP integration service into Google Voice.

Rebranding GrandCentral into Google Voice would open up multiple avenues for google in the coming years mainly in the integration space. It would be interesting to see if they would integrate Google Talk ingo google voice or add google voice to google talk. There were talks that Google Talk team doesnt do any further development and has been used by other teams possibly google voice team.

GrandCentral will continue to offer users with the same interface and its core feature, intregrating multiple phone numbers into one google voice number so you can manage your calls effectively.

Besides the standard features, Google Voice would also offer,

Call screening - Announce and screen callers
Listen in - Listen before taking a call
Block calls - Keep unwanted callers at bay
SMS - Send, receive, and store SMS
Place calls - Call US numbers for free
Taking calls - Answer on any of your phones
Phone routing - Phones ring based on whoConference calling - Join people into a single call
Call record - Record calls and store them online
Call switch - Switch phones during a call
Mobile site - View your inbox from your mobile
GOOG-411 - Check directory assistance
Manage groups - Set preferences by group calls
Forwarding phones - Add phones and decide which ring
Voicemail transcripts - Read what your voicemail says
Listen to voicemail - Check online or from your phone
Notifications - Receive voicemails via email or SMS
Personalize greeting - Vary greetings by caller
Share voicemail - Forward or download voicemails

Another important feature is obviously allowing totally free calls any USA number including mobile.

Unfortunately at this stage, google voice is restricted to existing GrandCentral users. However, let's hope they open up the doors to this exicting VOIP service to anyone anywhere in the world so anyone can leverage the benefit of having one number for call management.

We believe Google will now take up Google Voice seriously and would most likely integrate google voice voip service into other applications or services google offers.

Calling India Through VOIP Becomes Even Cheaper

VOIP has really broken into traditional telephony in a good way which saved everyone millions of dollars in each year which often ended up with greedy telecom operators. Most telecommunication providers in almost every part of the world have made enormous amount of money through traditional POTS lines and VOIP is a technology
of revenge. India is one such destination where VOIP did wonders.

I remember when IDD rates to USA were far out of reach of average indians and were quoted in the range of Rs. 40-50 per minute. Today, you can call USA for less than 1 cent or even FREE. Calling India was also very expensive however since last 6 months, more and more VOIP Providers are almost making India a free destination. We believe calling India at half cent per minute would be a dream come true, hopefully soon.

Today, we are announcing latest calling rates to India by LocalPhone and Mediaringtalk. Although, Mediaringtalk was always providing cheaper international calls to India, they now reduced the rate further to mere 1.7 cents per minute to Indian landlines/Mobiles.

LocalPhone, my personal favorite VOIP Provider has slashed their rate to just 2.9¢ now. I believe LocalPhone will push this to around 1.5 cents very soon if they continue to generate revenues and get large user base. They are currently one of the few VOIP Providers doing extremely well with their Service and Profits.

Lets' hope the price war continues so we have more choices to call India and of course, its a healthy competition amongst the VOIP Providers. Personally, I don't fall for cheap prices, I consider Cheap rate + Quality of Voice + Customer Service. LocalPhone has been excellent to me in all this categories, so I stuck to them even though I pay higher rate. I however strongly recommend MediaringTalk if you are looking for a cheaper alternative, the choice is yours

Cheap Call To India at Recession Rates

Recession is taking a toll on everyone's personal finances. Making a Low cost call using international phone cards or even VOIP Providers can save some money off your international calling expenses.

LocalPhone, winner of Best Cheap International Call Provider of 2008 award has reduced its calling rates to India even further to 3.3 cents only. I know its not the cheapest but as I always said, the best thing about LocalPhone is their Quality of Service, Prompt Customer Service and ease of use. They provide 66000 local access numbers in over 44 countries around the world. On top of it, they give you Free 5 Local numbers which you can directly forward to any phone number in the world. This feature is completely free, they only charge you for making calls to these numbers at their advertised rate. Trust me this comes in handy. No PINS no account numbers to remember.

However, they also provide a calling card in built in your account which you can use anywhere in the world (44 countries). This calling card is assigned to your account and shares the same credit as your localphone account.

If you are currently not using VOIP, you are loosing hell lot of money on international calling. Its time to switch to VOIP and start saving. You can get started with LocalPhone if you haven't already.

We would also like to hear your thoughts on LocalPhone as existing user. Any improvements or feature request can be posted under comments and I will ensure that LocalPhone takes a note of it and starts working towards the feature..

Qttel Offers Unlimited Free Calls

We are already in 2009 and expecting that more and more VOIP Providers join the "free VOIP" revolution and offers unlimited free international calls around the world.

Today we take a look at Qttel, a simple Phone to Phone based VOIP Service which promises to give unlimited free voip calls to over 50 countries. Thanks to comment on our VOIP Provider of the Year 2008, thats where we discovered about this service, which seem to have changed the name recently. I remember using this service but a non-free version of it.

You must enter your number in international format.

We have embedded their softphone into this post, you can start making calls right now. Use the following Qttel widget to make free calls.

QtTel is however a browser based VOIP service. It askes you to enter your phone number and your party's number and then Call. Qttel will first call you and then call the destination number. The biggest limitation of this service is it only works for 5 countries, Australia (FIX only),Canada (FIX & GSM!),UK (FIX only),Holland (FIX only),USA (FIX & GSM!). That means only people from this country can make calls. Of course if you have a incoming phone number from any of these country you should be able to receive calls from Qttel and of course make free voip calls.

Please note all calls are limited to 5 minutes but it seems you may dial the same number and over and over. Please let us know your feedback on Qttel.
